The first of its kind in the world, the Sports Meeting at the National Museum of American History and the Smithsonian’s Olympic Museum is designed to be an engaging, interactive experience for people of all ages and abilities.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the National Stadium, the world’s largest venue, and our National Sports Center to host our first Sports Meet.
Our goal is to build upon the successful history of our sports museums and encourage visitors to come learn about sports and culture from a diverse group of speakers, actors, athletes, and more.
We want to celebrate and nurture sports and its communities in a way that honors our past, present, and future.
Join us as we share our experiences from the Smithsonian, National Museum, and Olympic Museum, as well as our ongoing efforts to educate people about our sports heritage.
Our goals are to: 1.
Raise awareness about sports, encourage inclusion, and build respect 2.
Provide an opportunity to engage with and learn from other sports enthusiasts and to create connections with fellow fans and those around the world 3.
Engage audiences through sports events and community events 4.
Create a space for people to share experiences, experiences that shape their lives, and experiences that bring them joy and inspiration The goal of our mission is to create a space where people can come to share, learn, and engage in sports in ways that honor our past and present and are inspired by the cultures that we live in.
In 2018, the Smithsonian Institute launched a new sports initiative, the Center for Sport in the United States.
Our Center is committed to providing a space that is open to all people, regardless of their age, gender, ethnic background, or background in sports.
